Winter and E-Bike: some advice for storage

In the previous article article we have given some advice for making the best use of the e-bike even in the colder months.

Today we're addressing e-bike lovers who put their bikes into hibernation in the colder months.

So let's talk about storage.

Let's start by saying that cleanliness is essential.

In fact, before putting the bike away, it is very important to clean it well and thoroughly.

In addition to the chassis, it is good practice to focus on the suspension and transmission using degreasing detergents, brake cleaners and electrical and protective contacts for the suspensions, capable of removing grease without damaging the components.

We also advise you to remove the battery and clean the charging port and connections thoroughly using the appropriate sprays.

Once the washing is finished, proceed with lubricating the mechanics, then oil the chain and pedal bearings, use the appropriate sprays to protect the fork and shock absorber oil seals as well as the telescopic seat tube and be very careful not to oil some parts such as the brake discs.

As we also said in the last article, the battery is a component that does not like the cold at all, therefore, unless the temperature of the place dedicated to storing the bikes is between 10 and 20°, dismantle it and store it in a suitable environment .

If you are unable to remove it, protect it by wrapping its seat with a blanket or nylon.

Furthermore, before turning it off, recharge it with at least 70% so as not to make it lose efficiency.

Position it vertically, so that air does not form inside the hydraulic braking system or oil leaks from the fork and check the tires, they must be inflated and not punctured.

When the bike is stationary it is good practice to insert the highest gear, so that the transmission springs remain relaxed, while the telescopic seat tube must be completely raised and the suspension unlocked.

With the arrival of the summer, to restart in complete safety, proceed with a general check up of your e-bike in the assistance center you usually rely on.

Remember, however, to fully recharge the battery, bleed the hydraulic brakes and, in the case of tubeless tyres, check that the latex has not dried out.

Finally, make sure that the fork oil can move towards the bushings: for this it is enough to pump the fork a couple of times with the bike stopped!
