Winter and E-Bike: some advice for use in the colder season!

The arrival of cold and winter must not represent an obstacle to the use of e-bikes.

Indeed, with the necessary precautions, tackling snowy paths can be extremely fun!

Precisely for this reason, today we want to give you some advice to enjoy the colder months riding your faithful e-bikes.

First of all, we remind you that pedal-assisted bicycles use lithium ion batteries which, at low temperatures, heat up more quickly.

You must therefore take into account recharging your batteries more frequently than in the warmer months.

The cold does not cause damage to e-bikes, but it is still advisable not to go out with temperatures below -10°/-15° as this would affect the performance of various components: the suspensions would become stiffer because the oil would become less fluid, the brakes would become less efficient and the batteries would last less.

Another valuable tip is to take pressure off the tires, as it will help you have more control over the bike and more traction, especially in the presence of snow or ice.

Before setting out for a nice ride in the cold, we recommend giving the bike a warm-up ride, then clamping the brakes frequently and pumping the suspension for smoother movements.

In the end clothing.

Never dress too warmly, but always prefer to dress in layers and pay particular attention to your neck, hands and feet, which are the most sensitive parts and which transmit the cold to the rest of the body.

So make room for winter and water-repellent shoes, technical socks, preferably knee-high, and winter gloves, which protect your fingers from freezing.

Also wear a hat, possibly windproof and with a warm internal layer that can also cover your ears.

For the rest of the body, wear warm, elastic and breathable clothing, such as long-leg dungarees, adequate underwear and a good windbreaker.

Upon your return we advise you to thoroughly clean the bike, lubricate and oil it.

Finally, place the ebike in a sheltered place, so that the components can return to balance and, before recharging the battery, gradually bring it back to around 20°, without using external heat sources.
