GUIDE: How to Choose a Helmet for your Electric Bike

Not mandatory but highly recommended, the bicycle helmet must always be part of the cyclist's basic equipment. Here are our best tips for choosing a bicycle helmet that suits your needs!

City Bike and Mountain Bike Helmet

"City Helmets", or helmets for those who practice cycling in their spare time, can have relatively different shapes. We have very round helmets on one side and helmets that can be narrower on the other. Often slightly rounder urban helmets have a less developed ventilation system as they are more used on short trips. They rely more on strength and a more complete head protection. The narrow helmets, which are more oriented towards mountain biking, tourism and leisure cycling will be slightly lighter, with a more elaborate ventilation system to allow longer trips.

When it comes to E-Bikes, or pedal-assisted bicycles, they can reach speeds of up to 25 km/h. For those who use a city and bike in urban centers, a classic city bike helmet is sufficient. However, with an average speed slightly higher than that of a muscle bicycle, some helmet comfort features are different from those for traditional bikes. Therefore, helmets with integrated visor will be appreciated. This is why helmets produced by brands like Abus and Smith are ideal.

Road Bike Helmet

Road bike helmets (or racing bikes) have a particular design that allows them to offer greater aerodynamics and lightness. An elongated and well-ventilated shape characterizes this type of helmet, which guarantees excellent penetration of the air. These helmets generally benefit from the best materials to obtain maximum lightness.

Classic MTB and XC Bike Helmet

As a rule, MTB helmets have, like road helmets, a developed ventilation system and advanced research to ensure greater lightness. However, the big difference with road helmets is the visor. Removable or fixed, this protects the cyclist's face from branches and the sun's rays. This type of helmet is very popular and, depending on the levels and, consequently, the expectations and needs of cyclists, prices can vary considerably depending on the range of helmets.

Full-face helmet for Mountain Bike Freeride, Downhill and Enduro

For a more acrobatic or sporty mountain bike, you will need to increase the protection. In fact, for enduro or mountain biking, the level of risks for the cyclist is far greater, therefore more complete protection is required. For this reason, the helmets designed for this type of cyclist are longer on the back, to guarantee greater protection for the neck. The helmets are also equipped with a removable chin guard to protect the face. The full-face helmet is essential for this type of practice.
