Bike Touring: the new challenge of cycle tourism

Cycle tourism becomes the protagonist of a new Government initiative.

This is an idea launched by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, and managed by Invitalia, with the FactorYmpresa Turismo program, through which 300,000 euros were offered for projects related to cycle tourism and micro -green mobility.

Until October 7th it will be possible to propose your idea as part of the Bike Turing to find innovative solutions and proposals for those who love traveling by bicycle and facilitate this type of tourism.

The competition must deal with topics such as:

• The bike trip: a focus on people, their needs and solutions to improve their cycling travel experience;
• Local infrastructure: a focus on hospitality services, bicycle buses, intermodal transport, catering, e-bike charging towers and more. The desire, therefore, to identify solutions that can be adopted by cities to become more bike-friendly and to create and improve the usability of tourist destinations by cycle tourists;
• Operators in the tourism supply chain: a focus on hotels, campsites, B&Bs, restaurants, travel agencies and, more generally, on those involved in food and wine. A focus therefore on the improvement and renewal of the offer of services that involve the cycle tourist during their trip, such as for example bike rental and repair, safe places to store bikes, information services dedicated to this type of tourism alternative.

The best 20 proposals will participate in theAccelerathon, a 36-hour full immersion that will take place in Asti on 22 and 23 October, on the occasion of the nineteenth stage of the Giro di Italia.

Here, a team of experts from all over Italy will evaluate the various proposals and decide on the best 10, who will be rewarded with a prize of 30,000 euros each.

An initiative to innovate tourism in a bike-friendly and Covid-safe way and ensure that more and more people approach this method of travel, to fully experience the wonderful Italian territory and discover it from a completely different perspective .
