Super cycle paths: the perfect solution for redeveloping cities

Not just a cycle path: the Superciclabile is much more.

First of all it is a line of public transport, as it is fully integrated into the local transport network, it is a tool for civic education which will teach the new generations to share space and have a healthy and balanced relationship with what surrounds us, and is also a policy of social welfare, which supports and encourages the well-being and health of the population.

To be defined "super” must meet very high standards compared to those we are used to, including the width of the track, the radii of curvature that ensure constant speeds and passage along attractor poles and connections between different cities.

We had already spoken in a previous one Superciclabile article which will come to life on the Florence-Prato stretch, a project as ambitious as it is functional and sustainable for tourism and everyday life.

But why are the Supercycle paths to be considered the future?

First of all because they are functional: those who choose to ride these cycle paths do so to take a direct route, more practical than using other means of transport and one that touches strategic and attractive points of the territory, because if it is true that a nice ride improves your health, doing it in the middle of a beautiful landscape also improves your mood.

The second important element to take into consideration is that these Supercycle paths are at least 3 metres wide and uniform along the entire route, without any changes in section, paving or signage, but a homogeneous and linear path.

Another aspect to take into consideration is the enhancement of our country, where every corner of the territory hides a small landscape, historical and artistic treasure.

But above all, the Supercycle paths are extremely safe and easy to travel, in fact, represent a protected and fast route, not subject, therefore, to car or motorcycle traffic and the signs placed along the entire route allow for much easier inter-municipal travel.

Finally, the construction of new Supercycle paths allows for reduce costs and reduce times construction: in fact, they have a lower cost than superhighways or short motorways and the construction time is between 2 and 5 years, unlike the 10-25 years of motorways.

Considering that the most frequent daily journeys include a mileage of less than 10 km, and therefore absolutely passable by bicycle, the Superciclabili could represent an extraordinary and functional solution capable of encouraging the adoption of a healthier lifestyle and more attentive to environmental protection.
