Traveling by bike, in addition to discovering hidden corners of the world with different eyes, gives an incredible feeling of freedom.
On the other hand, unfortunately, it is not uncommon to come across breathtaking views and, once you lower your gaze to continue walking, come across rubbish abandoned on the road.
Plastic Free Ride It was born precisely for this reason.
Born in 2019 from the idea of two riders passionate about cycle tourism, the initiative combines the love for the bike with attention and care for the environment.
Equipped with a trolley attached to the bike and armed with telescopic pincers, these guys collect the waste that, between one pedal stroke and another, they find along the road: from plastic, to glass to cans, this waste is then sorted and thrown into the collection bins.
The first trip was 400 km, from Torbole sul Garda to Rimini, and it confirmed how serious and close to everyday life the problem is.
“This awareness combined with the involvement and interest found in many people, motivated us to continue. – reported the guys from Plastic Freeride – In the summer of 2020 we set off on our second trip, this time from Torbole to Lucca. Whenever we can, we do small clean-up tours on the roads and paths of the areas where we live, in Trentino. This summer we will set off on a more ambitious trip: we will travel across Italy from north to south, from the Alps to Santa Maria di Leuca. To continue to do our part in the defense of natural environments, and to involve more and more people in this mission. Because we can all do our part.»
Plastic Freeride is a great initiative to raise awareness of the problem and, so far, riders have cleaned 1,008 km of road collecting around 2,450 bottles.
