An exciting journey that combines nature, flavors and culture united by a passion for cycling!
This 80 km route winds along the Lower Parmense cycle path that connects Parma to Busseto, following cycle paths and paths parallel to the Po.
Presented by Visit Emilia on 17 September 2021, the Food Valley Bike it unites many wonders in a single path, in the name of slow, careful and sustainable tourism.
Furthermore, through the dedicated app, you can discover useful information on food and wine, the environment and culture of the area.
The starting point is Parma and, among the points touched, there are the places of production of Parmigiano Reggiano, pasta and Parma ham, until reaching the Reggio area, reaching Coenzo where the ethnographic museum of the Casa delle Contadinerie is located .
The itinerary then continues towards Colorno, where you can visit the Colorno palace, and then, in the direction of Sissa Trecasali, you can taste the Spalla Cruda di Palasone, a typical cured meat from the Middle Ages.
You can then continue towards Zibello, to discover the Culatello di Zibello DOP and the ancient Maturing cellars.
The journey will then end in Busseto, in whose hamlet of Roncole, the maestro Giuseppe Verdi was born.
The first section of the Food Valley Bike is also called the Pasta cycle path and goes from Parma to Sorbolo for about 18 km. Next we have the Anolino cycle path, which from Sorbolo reaches the river port of Mezzani sul Po and which leads to the Parma Morta Nature Reserve.
We then proceed along the Tortel Dols cycle path to reach Colorno and end up in Cured meats cycle path, a 36 km route where Spalla Cruda, Culatello and Ciccioli will dominate.
This project was conceived by the Unione Bassa Est and immediately met with the approval of the various municipalities affected by the cycle path, as well as having the patronage of Parma City of Gastronomy, Parma Capitale of Italian Culture 2020+21, Visit Emilia and the Authority of Po district basin.
