Redesigning urban space to promote the liveability of cities and citizen-friendly spaces is supported by BICI.
BIKE intended as a means of transport but, in this case, also as an acronym for Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure.
A new program of economic and technical support is born with the aim of building more cycling infrastructures, but also places dedicated to people, socializing and enjoying urban environments tailored to citizens.
All cities over 100,000 inhabitants, worldwide, can apply and be eligible for the program by applying by February 3, 2023.
The project was born from the collaboration between Bloomberg Philanthropies and Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI) and the ten cities that will be selected, in addition to obtaining substantial economic support (from 400 thousand up to 1 million dollars), will be able to receive, for three years, technical support from GDCI and will be directed in the meeting and exchange with the other selected cities.
The exchange and contamination of ideas allows us to find answers to the problems and needs of citizens, therefore creating cycle paths and effective and functional spaces.
GDCI is a non-profit association founded by Sadik-Khan and is an interdisciplinary working group whose goal is to transform roads around the world to improve people's quality of life, based on concepts of low-cost, highly versatile interventions and in public testing.
