“On the Via Silente you cycle to enjoy time, to perceive reality with all your senses, to discover that Silence which is not the absence of sounds but the quality of listening.”
In such a simple sentence you can perceive all the beauty that this itinerary can offer.
The Via Silente is a circular path of approximately 600 km, divided into 15 stages, which crosses the entire territory of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.
The “La Via Silente” Association was born on 1 December 2014 from a group of Cilentan boys involved in a project to enhance and promote the territory.
The journey was created by Carla and Simona who, in June 2014, armed themselves with bikes, pens, diaries and pencils and ventured out to discover their land, on a 28-day journey made up of landscapes, nature, people, traditions and love for one's land.
The headquarters of the "Via Silente" is located in Velina, a hamlet of Castelnuovo Cilento, where it is possible to collect "La Silentina", a document containing your personal details which certifies the presence of the cycle traveler on the Via and guarantees food and accommodation at agreed prices.
The route was called "Via Silente" because the streets and places it involves are far from traffic noise, as well as because of the similarity of the name with the area taken into consideration, Cilento precisely.
The Cilento National Park starts from the crystal clear waters of southern Campania until it reaches 1900 meters of Monte Cervati, the highest peak in the Region.
Inside you can find the centenary olive trees of Pisciotta, the cherry trees of Ceraso, the gorges of the Calore river, caves and many medieval villages rich in history and traditions.
The route is not for everyone because there are difficult sections with slopes up to 15%, but it can be modulated and managed according to your abilities.
There are in fact 15 stages of the Via Silente, each with its own particularity: in the Teggiano-Sanza stage there is the beautiful Certosa di San Lorenzo, in the Sanza-Casaletto section you can visit the Ethnographic Museum and the Capelli di Venere waterfalls or , on the Palinuro-Ceraso route you can visit the wonderful Caves of Capo Palinuro.
