Bosch and Volkswagen together for the production of batteries

The two giants have signed a memorandum of understanding for the creation of new solutions dedicated to the production of batteries.

The objective is to create integrated systems for the creation of cells to supply companies in the sector.

The collaboration between the two companies would also mean a reduction in costs, as it would shorten the production chain and limit dependence on Asia, thus adopting a "local for local" approach.

By the end of the year, the two companies aim to prepare the establishment of the new company while, by 2030, there is a plan to build factories for the production of cells with an annual capacity of 700 gigawatt hours.

Rolf Najork, member of the board of directors of Bosch, commented on this new partnership with Volkswagen: “Together with Volkswagen we will study how to industrialize new production processes for the production of cells with highly standardized equipment. Bosch is not only the largest component supplier on the automotive market but also a leading company in the field of production machinery”.

Thomas Schmall, however, a member of the board of the Volkswagen group, reported that “Europe has a unique opportunity: to become the hub of battery production in the years to come. Demand is strong and will grow further in the future and the partnership with Bosch will help grow the sector. We want to create an entirely European supply chain and to do so we must actively engage in the vertical integration of all production phases”.
