That the bicycle, especially the pedal-assisted one, is going through an unprecedented golden moment, where demand has quadrupled compared to 2019, is now beyond doubt.
Confindustria ANCMA, in fact, has released the data relating to 2020: in Italy the bicycle has reached 2,010,000 units (+17% compared to the previous year), of which 280,000 e-bikes (recording a +44% compared to 2019).
In economic values, in 2020 the export of e-bikes reached 80 million (+38%) and the import of 118 million (+46%).
Unfortunately, there is also another side of the coin.
In the Far East, production lines were closed for months and, once reopened, were hit by demand beyond all expectations. Suppliers who normally delivered in 90 days currently have delivery times of up to 18 months.
However, bicycle, component and accessory companies are demonstrating great ability to adapt to this rapid market change, also supported by huge public investments around the world, which aim to put more and more people on the saddle.
The investors who decide to subsidize the market, however, do not only concern large investment funds, but also small savers and citizens who have decided to reinvent themselves by focusing on the bicycle.
In addition to the many proposals on the market, we at E-Bike Travel also observe this trend on a daily basis.
In fact, at the end of January 2020, we implemented ours franchising project, with the aim of opening E-Bike Travel points throughout the national territory.
Every day we receive many requests from private individuals who want to reinvent themselves in a solid, continuously growing sector that can truly offer a lot of personal and, above all, entrepreneurial satisfaction.
This great desire to invest in the sector, even at a time of product and component shortages, is a great demonstration of how many changes brought about by the pandemic are destined to last.
Habits, ways of experiencing the environment around us in a sustainable and completely safe way, the need to rediscover territories slowly and carefully: these are all changes destined to remain.
And we are happy to be able to contribute, in our small way, to creating new professional opportunities in this wonderful sector!
