Famous for its food and wine excellences and the production of local wine, the Oltrepò Pavese is a wonderful area to discover on e-bikes, thanks also to the low traffic roads that characterize it.
An certainly interesting route to follow is that of the Voghera Varzi Greenway.
We have already talked about the many cycle paths created by disused railways, this path is one of them.
The route from Voghera to Varzi winds along the Staffora stream and you cycle in a beautiful area, rich in vines, woods, scents and colours.
From Salice Terme, right near the old railway station, the second section of the Voghera-Varzi Greenway starts, a route that begins to go up the Staffora Valley on the right hydrographic bank of the stream.
The cycle path is a perfect itinerary and accessible to all types of cyclists as it is characterized by gentle slopes and quiet roads.
In addition to being a wonderful landscape, the area is also interesting from a historical point of view as you can encounter wonderful attractions such as the castle of the Marquises Malaspina of Varzi.
From Varzi, then, with a climb of around 15 kilometres, it is possible to reach Passo Penice and the summit of the mountain of the same name by e-bike.
The road has a significant difference in altitude and runs through vineyards and chestnut woods.
The last 5 kilometers are the hardest of the entire route as they lead to Monte Penice, at 1145 meters above sea level, where it is possible to enjoy a wonderful view of the Trebbia Valley and the Varzi Valley.
Another interesting route is the one between Nibbiano and Zavattarello, 20 kilometers developed between hills and mountains of the Oltrepò Pavese. Starting from Nibbiano, you continue uphill towards Pecorara, until you reach the Penice Pass.
From here, on the border between Pavia and Piacenza, there are two possibilities to get to Zavattarello: you can turn right two kilometers before the Penice Pass, then following the signs for Zavattarello, or you can take part of the descent that leads from Penice to to Varzi, deviating at a certain point towards Zavattarello.
Finally, another noteworthy route, where we will soon open an E-Bike Travel point, concerns Montalto Pavese, one of the most famous wine-growing areas of Lombardy and where a wonderful 27.5 kilometer route extends.
The circular itinerary presents a medium difficulty as the roads are paved at 87% and the height difference that can be reached is 553 metres.
In addition to the natural beauty of the landscape, among the main attractions on the route there is the Montalto Castle and the splendid panoramic views of the landscape.
