The Lucanian Apennines Park by E-Bike

The Basilicata region, small and rich in landscapes, tradition and biodiversity, is a pearl to visit by e-bike.

Crossed by the Southern Apennines, the wonderful Lucanian Apennines Val d'Agri – Lagonegrese National Park was established in 2007 or, to put it briefly, the Lucanian Apennines Park, which connects the Pollino Park and the Lucanian Dolomites.

Starting from Potenza, it is possible to undertake two different routes, both immersed in nature and tradition.

The first concerns the Sellata Pierfaone climb, a circular route with long climbs but which certainly don't stop a nice ride.

You can pass from the area of the Pantano di Pignola Lake Reserve, very important for its aquatic fauna and the great variety of birds during the migration period, to the wooded expanses of the Abriola area.

After passing Pignola you reach the Valico della Sellata and go up towards Pierfaone, at 1400 meters above sea level.

After a descent to the center of Abriola, you reach Calvello: from here it is possible to connect with other territories, such as the Lucanian Dolomites, the Pertusillo dam and the Grumentun area.

From the valley floor, taking the SS92, you will then gradually go up, skirting Anzi, on whose summit there is the Astronomical Observatory "Il Planetarium", from which it is possible to observe the celestial vault and many stars.

After passing Anzi you reach the Passo Croce dello Scrivano and descend slightly towards Rifreddo, where you can deviate towards Brindisi di Montagna where, in the Parco della Grancia, you come across the Grancia di San Demetrio, a beautiful monastic farmhouse founded by the Carthusians.

Returning to Rifreddo you cross a wonderful landscape amidst woods and suggestive panoramas which culminates in a splendid plateau.

Being a circular route, from here you will return to Potenza, but not before stopping in the beautiful historic center of Pignola.

The second route is the one that goes from Potenza to the Melandro Valley, where you will cross the gorges of the Savoia di Lucania territory and then arrive at the wooded expanses between Brienza and Sasso di Castalda, near the Val d'Agri National Park and the Park Cilento national team.

The towns you will pass through are full of attractions and sites that deserve a stop: in Savoia di Lucania, for example, there is the Museum of Memory, nearby there are the Tuorno waterfalls; Sant'Angelo Le Fratte and Satriano are two places that host historical centers of great beauty.

Another tour that deserves attention is the one from the Sassi of Matera, which hosts the wonderful Bradano valley where, skirting Lake San Giuliano, you will be immersed in a wildlife oasis that is nothing short of spectacular. After passing the Basento valley, you climb up the Lucanian Dolomites and then cross the Apennine woods.
