Lake Varese is located at the foot of the Varese Prealps, it is the 10th largest Italian lake and is part of the Seven Lakes of the Province of Varese.
Around this small wonder immersed in nature, there is a cycle/pedestrian path whose length is 28 km and, in some areas, the path runs right next to the lake.
Precisely for this reason, the tour of Lake Varese by e-bike is one of the most classic itineraries in the province and can be tackled by any type of e-biker, from the most expert to families with children.
The starting point for this small tour is Gavirate, which is located in the northernmost part of the lake and where you can find Angelo in our point E-Bike Travel Varese.
From the town, following the cycle path counterclockwise, you arrive towards the Brebbia swamp, created in 1983 and managed by Lipu.
Pedaling west, you cross the Bardello river and then find yourself near the Biandronno peat bog, a lake basin in the process of drying up as it is fed only by seasonal rains.
Once past the Biandronno peat bog you will come across a wonderful archaeological and naturalistic site: theVirginia islet, a UNESCO heritage site since 2011 and reachable from Biandronno by ferry.
From here, following the cycle path, you arrive at the Palude Brebbia nature reserve, an ideal place for those who love to practice bird watching, where you can count up to 160 resident and migratory birds.
Along the paths that cross this splendid natural reserve you can also find explanatory panels that explain the history, place and biodiversity present.
Once out of the swamp you then reach Cazzago Brebbia which follows the municipality of Bodio Lomnago, with its small pier, the menhir engraved in prehistoric times and the remains of the ancient pile-dwelling site, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The stretch that connects Bodio Lomnago to Capolago, unfortunately, runs parallel to the busy Sp36 but, once you have passed this short stretch, you will find yourself immersed in nature again.
After passing the church of the Madonnina del lago you will then reach the bridge over the Roggia Nuova stream and, after about 200 metres, you will find the deviation for Capolago where the southern shore of the lake ends and you will find yourself following the profile of the waters of the lake.
The northern shore of the lake hosts several attractive areas, such as the glider landing strip of the Calcinate del Pesce airport and the old church of San Michele with the decorated cloister of Voltorre.
Continuing the cycle path you will return to Gavirate, thus concluding the lake cycle path and with your eyes full of nature, colors and wonder!
