The beautiful season is upon us.
The days are timidly starting to get longer, the sun is getting hotter and hotter and the desire for free excursions is strong.
Nothing like a beautiful view, nature and a nice bike ride can make a nice trip memorable, if combined with poetry, the day acquires an extra touch.
The lower Garda, in fact, besides being a perfect destination for cyclists, it is also a fascinating place full of poets.
Catullus, with his 31st poem dedicated to Sirmione, his hometown. D'Annunzio, whose phrase "I have what I donated" welcomes visitors to the Vittoriale agli Italiani, located in Gardone Riviera. Or Goethe who, having landed in Malcesine, was captivated by the beauty of the place, giving life to breathtaking drawings.
The great beauty of these panoramas also gives life to varied routes of different difficulty levels that allow cyclists of all ages to enjoy this beautiful land.
One of the routes that deserves a mention is the stretch that connects Desenzano and Salò.
This is a mixed route that winds partly on asphalt and partly on dirt and allows for several variations, suitable for every type of bike and cyclist's training.
The cycle path is on the left, just outside the town of Desenzano, along state road 572, towards Cunettone.
After a short, mostly flat stretch, you will begin to climb towards the Maguzzano Abbey, where you can choose whether to take the route towards Salò, along the “via alta”, which offers beautiful panoramic views of the lake, or continue along the “via bassa”, or through the woods on a less challenging route.
Although quieter, the path through the woods offers truly charming flower-lined trails.
From here, you reach Padenghe and arrive at the Castle, a fortress dating back to the 12th century and located in a panoramic spot.
Then, taking the cycle path again, between nature, climbs and descents, you arrive at the three Sovenigo lakes, at the height of Puegnago del Garda, continuing then towards the Chiesetta degli Alpini, located on a panoramic terrace and equipped with tables and fountains to fill your water bottles.
From this point you can decide to continue towards Salò and then return on the asphalt road or connect to other cycle-tourist routes and take the cycle path between Soiano and Padenghe.
Desenzano del Garda It is certainly an excellent starting point for a cycling holiday on Lake Garda, in a central position and well connected to the centre of Sirmione with a convenient cycle/pedestrian path.
Furthermore, for a few days now you will be able to go to our point E-Bike Travel Desenzano, where you will find a rental service and many tours dedicated to excursions to fully enjoy the area.
