The Ciclovia del Sole, the stretch that connects Mirandola with Bologna, will soon be immersed in greenery.
After considering participating in the national call for urban reforestation, the mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore signed the agreement to plant more than 6,000 trees and 2,500 shrubs along the Emilian cycle path.
The work will be carried out on an area of approximately 4.5 hectares owned by the Italian Railway Network and will affect the municipalities of Crevalcore, San Giovanni in Persiceto and Sant'Agata Bolognese.
The urban forestation operation will only find a home for native vegetation, as it would guarantee greater rooting and complete respect for the surrounding environment. Species of different ages, types and colors will be selected to enrich the route in the various seasons: in fact, there will be varieties such as wild cherry trees, blackthorns, maples, ash trees, poplars and many others.
Preserving the variety of species also harmonizes the territory and makes it recognisable, making the place an interesting cycling destination.
With the addition of this small green lung, the cycle path of the sun would also take on the connotation of green infrastructure, pursuing many objectives regarding the ecological, environmental, landscape and tourism plan.
This is a beautiful example of how cycle infrastructures, in addition to being an enormous support for slow and careful micro-mobility, are also real projects for the valorization of the territory.
